NGARUAWAHIA.
Lkcture.—On Friday evening last the Rev. Mr Gahvcy, organising Secretary of the New Zealand Church Missionary Socisty, delivered a lecture in Holy Trinity Church on Missionary work in the South of India. The object of the lectin e was to arouse more interest in Miasioniry work, and it was illustrated by limelight views, showing the nature of the country, the inhabitants and their idol worship, and the result of the labours of the Missionaries. Funeral.—On Sunday the remains of Mr John Magner, of Te Kowhai, weninterred in the Ngaruawahia Cemetery. The funeral left the late residence of the deceased at 2 p.m., and the procession of vehicles, horsemen and pedestrians was a very large one, and gradually swelled as it approached the cemetery. The Kev. Father Croke met the collin at the gate and read the service of the church. In a short address at the jjrave Father Croke said that by the death of Mr Maguer the Empire had lost one who had borne arms iu its defence, the colony had lost a good colonist, and the Roman Catholic Church had lost a faithful member.— (Own Correspondent).
