OHAUPO.
Anglican Ghukch.— On Sunday last the Rovd. Canon Blackburn held divine service at Ohaupo. There was only a poor congregation, which, no doubt, was owing to the threatening weather. Mr Blackburn is a young man lately out from Encland, but for all that, can claim to be a New Zealander as he was born here, but left the colony when very young. Ho is now acting for Archdeacon Willis until that gentleman returns from England. Before reading the sermon the revd. gentleman explained his presence amongst them, stating that his work depended upon his health, and as ho was'new to New Zealand ways he hopefi to have chi prayers ami r.he h| -)r> of the congregation, ad-ima that if hj had ad H lent w.y » mtliil lli'Ufein ht-i-e 1 they would iak- it It and announced that the service would be at 11 o’ol ck next Sunday -vdi r - nightlv after that at the same hi- r In connection with church matters I Urngot t> mention that on the eve of the Archdeacon’s depaiture for England he was presented by ifn- congregation with ail ad ire -, wia b * him a | lea-anr r and a safe return will renew id lu-a and vigour, also a donation of £lO 3s 0 ', besides an Easter offering of £5. The Archdeacon suitably replied, thanking the congregation fat their kindly disposition towards him. Social.— The first of the series of socials to be held during the winter months, under the management of the Ohaupo Social Committee, came off on Friday evening last. Although the weather proved unfavourable, quite 30 couples attended, and all seemed to enjoy themselves thoroughly. The music was supplied hy Mrs Buck worth, of Kilnkihi, and was all .hat could be desired, it being some of the best dance music we have had here for some time.—(Own Correspondent).
