HAMILTON BOROUGH FUNDS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —As considerable interest has been manifested lately in Borough affairs, especially the overdraft, it may be of interest to some to know how this was created. When I took office in 1893 it stood at £4OO. Since then the following extraordinary expenditure has been incurred and paid out of the ordinary revenue, without any additional burden in the way of extra taxation—viz : School bridge £175 Traffic bridge 450 Saleyards 200 Liquor Sale Control Act .. 110 Lamps and installation ... 200 Library vote 100 £1235 The above does not include the Government grant or contributions from the Waipa or Waikato Counties, but the actual amount expended from the ordinary shilling rate. With regard to the amount of money held by the Treasurer on the 31st March, I have examined the books and am quite satisfied that the money has been properly accounted for, but it may be a question for the Council to consider whether tne Town Clerk should exercise his discretion in holding over cheques at the request of ratepayers.—l am, etc., W.
