NGARUAWAHIA.

Debating Society. The usual fortnightly meeting of the Ngaruawahia Debating and Social Society was held in the Town Hall on Friday, the 24th inst. The evening was devoted to essays on "Which is the greatest happiness-pro-ducer—Love, Courtship, or Marriage." Considering the subject is one worn thread-bare and that there was not much likelihood of hearing any fresh ideas, there was a fair attendance. A good number of essays were handed in and read by the secretary. At the conclusion Messrs Hanlon, Wells, Skelton and Hunt spoke, The next meeting will be devoted to a debate on the " Old Age Tension Bill." This ought to prove a more interesting evening, as I believe we have some ardent supporters and opponents of the present Government in the township.

Football Social.—A football social will be held in the Ngaruawahia Hall on Friday next. An excellent programme, consisting of football songs, and songs of various kinds, football tableaux, recitations and dancing will be provided. The services of Mr A. J. Simmelhag, Ngaruawahia's comic, and Mr Lloyd, of Taupiri, have, I understand, been obtained, and the entertainment should be a really good oue.—Own Correspondent). '
