PIRONGIA.

Athletic Club Concert. There has heeu no amusement of any kind here for sometime past, so that the Waipa Amateur Athletic I lub's concert and theatrical entertainment, which will eventuate on Wednesday evening next, will be welcomed by many of our young settlers of both sexes. The trophies won at the late meeting will also be presented to those entitled to receive them. All the beat talent of this and other districts have promised their services, the success of the evening's amusement is assured Jupiter Pluvius, only consenting. Influenza.—That awful influenza, la grippe or whatever it may be called, still continues prevalent in the district, attacking both Maoris and Europeans, and sometimes with fatal results. Only recently at Tautnatakanohi.a young halfcaste girl, a daughter of Pita Turner's, after a comparatively short illness, died of the complaint, and a large number of natives have assembled at the tanid. Volunteer Corps.—l notice in last Tuesday's issue of Thk Waikato Argus, that Mr E. H. Aubin has at last been induced to convene a meeting to consider the advisability of forming a Volunteer Corps in the district. It is to he hoped the meeting will be a sucsesful one, and that all who intend joining the corps will attend on Monday evening next. Since my last notes, a j;ood addition has been made to the list of those willing to join the corps.—(Own Correspondent).
