UNVEILING OF A STATUE TO LATE DR. STUART.

(BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION). Dunedin, Last Night. The statue to the late Rev. Dr. Stuart, for many years pastor of Knox Church, was unveiled to-day. The site selected is at the intersection of High and Rat-tray-streets, just above the Triangle. The pedestal is over 10 feet high, the foundation of New Zealand granite, and thecentre of Waikawa stone. The statue, which shows Dr. Stuart in a sitting position, was designed by Mr Leslie Morrison, of Wellington, and though he had never seen the doctor, and had to work from photographs, it is generally admitted he has been surprisingly successful in securing a likeness. The plaster of Paris model was sent to England, and the bronze statue was cast by W. Moore, ol London. Hon W. D. Stewart, on behalf of the committee who raised the public subscription, before handing over the statue to the Mayor for the citizens, asked Mrs R. Glendinuing to unveil it. This was done, and after brief addresses calls were made for Mr Morrison, who returned thanks for the appreciation of his work. Three cheers were given in memory of Dr. Stuart, and for the artist.
