GOAL SEAM ON FIRE.
(BY TELEGKAni— PEKSS ASSOCIATION). Wellington, Last Night. The report received respecting the coal scam which has been burning for some years past on the bank of the right hand branch of the Inangahua, is to the effect that it was iguitcd ten years ago by a bush fire, and uo steps were taken to extinguish it. It is recommended that the seam should be Hooded with water from the adjacent swamp, and if this fails a drive will have to be cut through the seam, which is some 500 ft. The fire is now approaching a much larger body of coal, and if this catches the cost of extinguishing the fire will be increased. The Inangahua Council has been communicated with and asked to assist.
