RAILWAY WORKSHOPS DESTROYED.

Tin-: Government railway workshop and tunning shed, together with three loeomotives and all the plant, tools and machinery therein, were destroyed by fire at 9.10 p.m. last nit/lit. When the alarm was given, three locomotives were got out, but nothing else could he saved. The steam (ire engines saved the adjoining shops. There was no wind, or the important block in the main street would have gone.

The otiiun of the fire is a mystery. The hands were on the premises twenty minutes before the outbreak, but there was no sign of tire then. The loss is roughly estimated at £20,000. Thetiatlie will not be interfered with, as engines will be borrowed from the Harbour Board.
