Cattle : Dullness has characterised the market. Average numbaro were brought forward, but the demand was by no means keen, and the previous week's values were barely reached. Ltd., report under date, London, February 29th : With a change to wet muggy weather the demand during the early part of the present month fell away, and values for most descriptions of frozen meat have sinee ruled in buyer's favour. New Zealand mutton, in common with other descriptions, has participated in the general depression, and to-day's quotations mark a depreciation of from Jd to Jd per lb While stocks of Australian mutton arc fairly large the market has betm firm, the relatively low prices having undoubtedly been the means of increasing consumption. For some exceptionally prime sheep from the Western district of Victoria, to 2fd per lb. has been secured. Ordinary descriptions at the close show an advance of $d per lb on the month. Owing to a temporary fallin" off in shipments there, was a sharp rise in value* of American beef last week, values of Australian in sympathy being firmer. With a resumption of supplies, however, the position has not been fully maintained. Frozen lambs have met with more enquiry, in consequence of which it has been possible to secure rather more money.
