WAIKATO HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

Tub Waikato Hospital and Charitable Aid Board held its usual monthly meeting in the Council Chambers on Thursday. Then.- were picsent : —Mr A. Primrose (Chairman), N. I. Hunt, W. H. Herries, Kd. Allen, S. (Steele, W. Dey, If. Vickers, J. B. Teasdiile, S. T. Seddon,* Jas. McGuirU, J. P. Bailey, A. Furze and \V. P. Chepmell. Wm. Axywabi). A communication was received from the General Managvr of the Railway Department, in which he stated that in 18S9 the Resident Engineer reported that this man was sniveling from rheumatism and was frequently absent from his work, and at Aly ward's request his boy was appoint! d platelayer in his place and leceived man's wages from the day of his appointment. The Department regretted that nothing further could he dene in the matter.— Mr Steele thought if this son was receiving full wages he should contribute towards the support of his father, and moved that an application should be made to him.—Mr McGnirk seconded.— After considerable discussion the motion was carried unanimously. Waikato Patiknts. The Thames Hospital authorities reported that two Waikato residents named Thomas Donovan and Patrick Murphy had been admitted into the Hospital, and a claim for their treatment would be made in due course. Conway.—ln the matter of the Conway claim the House Steward of the Auckland Board wrote stating that after taking legal advice they had decided to contest the matter, and allow the matter to be settled by the Courts. A second letter informed the Waikato Board that the boy had been removed from the Hospital by his parents, and asked for the immediate payment of the amount of his account, £6.— The Secretary informed the members that he had instructed Mr A. Swarbrick to proceed at once with the case. Meicklejohn'.—The iNorth Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wrote agretiug to pay the expenses of Mr Meieklejohn, of Matakana, until he was sufficiently recovered to be removed without injury to himself. MRSGOBDON. —The action of Mr W. H. Herries and the Secretary iu tending Mrs Cordon, of Te Arohn, down to Auckland, was endorsed, and the sum of Ss per week was granted toward her support there. The Secretary was asked to explain to the Auckland Board that the family would not have been sent to Auckland only it was understood that Mrs Gordon and the children would be assisted by her father an 1 mother. Lot 53, Hamilton West.-—Mr A. Swarbrick. solicitor, wrote stating thac after a delay of four months he had received notice that the schedule of the lands granted to the Board in exchange for lot 55 was now prepared. Lot 101, Hobotiit.- Mr Swarbrick also informed the Board that the matter of the gravel reserve at lot 101, Horotiu, had at last been settled, and he enclosed £lO purchase money as agreed. Nursing Staff. —The House Committee in their report upon the nursing staff of the hospital, recommended that the staff should be allowed to remain as at present until after the examination, when they suggested that the staff should consist of a head nurse at £SO, a nurse at £4O, a nurse at £33, and four probationers, instead of as at present — head nurse, second nurse, temporary nurse and five probationers.—-Mr Seddon moved, and Mr Bailey seconded, that the report should be adopted.—Mr Herries considered the arrangement an admirable one but thought it should first be submitted for the surgeon superintendent's approval, and as an amendment proposed that it should be submitted for his opinion.—This was seconded by Mr McGnirk, but was lost, the only other member supporting it being Mr Vickers, and the motion was carried. Cook. —Two applications were received for the vacant position of cook at the Waikato Ho?pital:—Jas. Bristow, of Auckland, and Mrs Pur tell, also of Auckland, fonnrely cook at the institu- . tion.—Mrs Purtell'a application was accepted. - Lot'-'s4.—lt .was decided to advertise for tenders for Lot 254, Te Awamutu. Annual Tenders. The following tenders were received for the annual supplies :—Bread : W. J. McLean, 3d per loaf; Jas. C. Hay, 3d per loaf. Meat : T. Qualtrough (aggregate) 93 6d ; J. Bettley (aggregate) 9s 8M ; R. B. Hints'(aggregate) 10s IOJd. Milk : Wm. Hall, ]unr., 5d per gallon ; M. Ji Hill. s*d per gallon ; J. D. Melville, 0M per gallon ; F. B. Jolly, 6Jd per gallon. Funerals : A. Coyle, £1 12s 6d ; T. W. Maunder, £1 13s ; E. White, £1 14s. Liquors : Mrs Gwynne (aggregate) £24 3s (id ; P. Le Quesne (aggregate) £24 9s ; G. J. Mann, incomplete. Drugs : A. E. Manning, R. F. Sandes. Groceries: John Knox. Coil : John Ridler, 19s per ton.—The committee recommended that thu following tenders should be accepted :—Bread, Mr McLean ; meat, Mr Qualtrough ; funerals, Mr Coyle ; liquors, Mr Le Quesne ; he being lower on the item Henusey's (three star) brandy ; drugs, Mr Manning ; groceries.Mr Knox; coal, Mr Ridler.—The Board accepted the iccommendations of the Committee. No tender wis accepted for the milk supply, aud it >vas left with the Home Committee to arrange. While the question of annual tenders was being considered.— Mr Teasdale expressed the opiniou that a number of tradespeople would be far better satisfied if in future the annual tenders were made receivable the night before the meeting, and opened by the Board instead of by the House Committee. He moved to that effect.—Mr McGnirk supported Mr Teasdale.—lt was pointed out that the tenders were considered by the Committee merely as a saving of time, and if there was any doubt in the mind of any member the tender in question had only to be asked for and it would be produced.—Several members of the Committee said they would be delighted to fall in with the new ariangement. —On the motion being put the voting resulted as follows :—For: Messrs Hunt, Dey, McGnirk, Teasdale and Bailey. Against : The Chairman and Messrs Vickers, Seddon, Chepmell, Allen, Steele and Herries.— Ihe motion was lost Ail).—-On the application of Mr Ed. Allen, it was decided to allow Mr Sam Wild, of Cambridge, 3s per week temporarily* Contributions. —Mr Chepmell moved the usual formal resolutions, fixing the amount of allocations to be contributed by the various local bodies as follows : Pfako County, £398 9s ; Waikato County, £334; Waipa County, £277; Raglan County, £lO4 16s; Hamilton Borough, C7"> 2s ; Cambridge Borough, £SO 13s; total, £I3OO. Sunday Admittance.—Mr Dey drew the at'ention of the Board to the fact that while there was nothing in the rules and regulations of the Hospital to prevent patients being admitted ou Sunday, the sign board in front of the Hospital notified that none except very urgent cases would be admitted on that day. He failed to understand why patients should not be admitted on Sunday as well as on any other day.—All the other members were ot the same opinion.— Mr Dey gave notice of motion to move at next meeting that the necessary alteration be made iu the bye law bearing on the question.
