Several letters and telegrams were read apologising for the absence of brethren, and wishing Bro. Mack a happy and prosperous year of office. The ceremony, which had been a choral one under Wor. Bro. T. Hartly, P.M., was then closed. At nine o clock a start was made with the ball, and, notwithstanding the unfavourable night, there was a goodly number present, and, as is not usually the case, the gentlemen predominated. The members and officers of the lodge —notably, die W.M. and Bros. Boyce and Dyer—worked hard to secure the success of the function, and their object was certainly attained. The floor was splendid, and the mus e supplied by an orchestra of ten performers, under Bro. T. Hnrtly, was perfection. A large marquee adjoining the hall was tued as a supperroom, and here Bro. Boyce once more upheld his reputation as a caterer, his efforts in this direction being well known throughout the district. Dancing was kept up with much spirit until about 2 a.m., when all left after having spent an enjoyable evening.
