AMERICAN WOOL DUTY.

♦- New York, March 1. The members of tho United States Wool Manufacturers' Association and of the Wool Growers' Association held a conference on the question of tho tariff rates on wool, but failed .to come to an agreement. Tho wool growers declined to accept tho duties offered, and would not consent to a protective benefit to the extent of only four cents por pound to American merino wool. A strong American Byndicate, which has been formed, hopes to be able to buy a million bales of Australian and River Plate wool, and in the event of do'ng so the syndicate expects to secure a profit of £1,000,000.
