Kk A very serious mishap overtook ArCurtis, who was cook at tlie Frontiermen camp-, at Aoroa on Monday. Mr Curtis was busy the meal ready prior to the Squadron leaving for tile sports, when he was apparently seized with a fit and fell across the trench fire and regained there seemingly unable to move. Fortunately, some of the Frontiersmen saw him and quickly went to his assistance. They succeeded in pulling him out of the fire which had ignited his clothing. Curtis w r as badly burned about the body and face, and no lime was lost in taking him to the hosktal.

Hit is with very deep regret that we the sudden death of Mr. J. H. [ B. Wil iams, of Mangarata, who, althI ough comparatively new resident m I this district, enjoyed the confidence ! and highest esteem of all with whom.he had come in contact. A little over a week ago, Mr. Williams was thrown from his horse, and sustained a temporary injury to his knee. lie wras confined to bed for a day or two, when an attack of pneumonia set in. He was removed to the Dargaville Cursing Home on Saturday last, and was reported to be doing well, indeed not more than half an hour before his death, the reports were excellent. Unhappily, and to the profound sorrow of all his relatives and friends, Mr.' Williams suddenly collapsed on Monday afternoon, and passed away. The deceased only came to the Wairoa two or three years ago, and he was a fine, straightforward, clean, and gentlemanly type of man. with a character that at once won him and enabled him to maintain ■hem.
