A RECORD PRICE.

The cables told us recently of the record price of 15,000 gns being obtained for the brood mare Flair at the sale of blood stock at Newmarket, England. The highest price hitherto paid for a brood mare was 12,600gn5, paid for La Fleche; but the highest price given for a mare in full training was £25,000 paid by Mr. W. Bass for the famous Sceptre, who fetched 10,000 guineas as a yearling. Flair, who was bred by the late Sir Daniel Cooper, is a six year old daughter of St. Frusquin (son of St. Simon and Glare, by Ayrshire from Footlight, by Cremorne). Flair won three of the four races in which she started as a two-year-old, earning £5384 in stakes. The following season she credited her owner with the One Thousand Guinea. Stakes, worth £4 CO, after which she was retired irom the turf. Lesbia is a full-sister of Flair, and was unbeaten as a two-year-old, winning five races, worth £9351; and last season she secured two races worth £?33G5 —• the Coronation Stakes at Epsom and the July Cup at Newo a -ket.
