ROYAL NURSERIES IN. MADRID.
ROOMS FURNISHED IN ENGLISH STYLE. THE QUEEN'S TASTE. The furnishing of the Royal nurseries, in Madrid in which the Queen of Spain - has taken the greatest personal interest, is now completed. It will please her English friends to know that the young Queen decided to have the suite of nurseries carried out in distinctive English styl£, and that, a short time ago, a_ representative of Messrs Hampton and Sons (Limited) went to Madrid to discuss and prepare schemes for the furnishing and decora- j tion of the nurseries. The Queen herself chose the curtains and carpets, suggested the treatment for the various rooms, and almost dally visited this, the most interesting suite in the whole Palace. Now that the last touch has been put to the domain that has been designed for the hope of Spain, the Queen has expressed hers-If charmed and delighted with the result. The Spanish nurseries are, indeed, everything that is ideal In the way of nurseries. The apartments, consisting of day nursery, night nursery, dining-room, bath-room, maid’s bedroom and workroom, are on the sunny side of the ! Palace, and overlook and are immediately above the Queen’s apartments. TYPICALLY ENGLISH Greer* and white, with touches of rose pink, form the color scheme of the day nursery, where the future prince or princess will spend most of its early years. The room is charming, and is typically English, and with its low-vaulted te.iing and its white enamel, from the centre carved beam, extending to the dado. ' Soft shades of green are introduced, and the walls are surrounded by special-ly-designed toy cabinets, with carved 1 panels illustrating nursery rhymes, in white enamel on mahogany, with oxydized silver fittings. quaint nursery runs round the room,-which is lighted by . curious lanterns in oxydized silver. . The white enamelled chimney-piece, with its green tiles, repeats the color scheme, and the dog grate and high oxydized steel fender, with the Royal monogram embossed on it, is a very distincitve feature No sharp corners are permitted in this beautiful nursery. The round centretable is intended to be used as a play table, and the low chairs have loose covers of white chintz, with a quaint pattern of pink roses. THE KING’S COT. V White enamelled mahogany was
chosen by the Queen for her baby’s night nursery. The cot. it is interesting to know, is the very same cot that was used by King Alfonso himself. The walls are panelled with white enamelled mahogany, and a frieze of quaint figure, with’ a deep shelf for ornaments, run round the room.
At the left of the fireplace is a fitment, comprising two wardrobes, with canopied and draped chintz roses. The fireplace itself is a feature of the decorations, with its quaint blue and white Dutch tiles, hobgrate, and oxydised silver, high guard fender, with the Royal coat-of-arms in heraldie colorings carved above.
The dining-room also has white-panel-led walls quaint frieze and projecting oxydised silver lanterns. The furniture is mahogany, with the Royal monogram richly inlaid.—“ Dublin Warder.”
