JAPANESE ELECTIONS.
“AS YOU WERE” POSITION EXPECTED. ANTI-GOVERNMENT PARTIES RETAINING SEATS. SOCIALISTS DOUBLING THEIR STRENGTH. (Received Sunday, 6.30 p.m.) TOKIO, May 1. The Diet elections have met with apathy. The general feeling is that the appeal to the country is artificial. The early figures suggest an as you were position, with the Anti-Govern-ment Liberal, Minseito, Agrarian and Seiyukai parties maintaining a dominating position with eighty per cent, of the seats. The chief change is that the Socialists are doubling their strength with forty seats.
