SOUTH WAIRARAPA ITEMS. PIRINOA. (“The Age” Special.) A painful accident l>efel Mr. W. Pope a few days ago. While in th* act of inspecting a steam pipe on an engine at the local sawmill a screw blew out, the steam scalding Mr. Pope on the side of the face. Fortunately * Mr. Pope did not receive the full force of the steam, otherwise the results might have been more serious. The funeral of the late Mr. Haeata Apatu took place at Moiki the other day. There was a very large attendance of both Europeans and Maoris. The Rev. Watene officiated at the graveside. At a meeting of the committee of the school and the Women's Institute, held at the residence of Mr. Gilbert Motherland, matters in connection with the treat for the school children prior to the vacation were completed. Miss Queenie Te Maari has left for Wellington where she will stay for an indefinite period. A pleasing function took place at the residence of Mrs Te Maari when Mr. W. Innes, on behalf of the employees of Mr. Morison’« sawmill, presented Mr. Norman Murphy, a fellow employee who was recently married, with a beautiful pair of bedspreads. Mr. Innes conveyed the best wishes of his fellow workers for a prosperous future. A special meeting of the school committee was held on Friday evening when matters in connection with the carriage of school children were discussed. It was decided to place the whole position before the Minister through the member for the district, Mr. B. Roberts M.P..
