A. & P. AFFAIRS.

MEETING OF MASTEBTON ASSOCIATION. KEEN INTEREST IN SHOW. The keen interest that is being taken in the forthcoming Jubilee Show of the Masterton A. A P. Association was evidenced by the full attendance of members at a meeting of the general committee, held last night. The president, Mr. W. James, presided and various matters relating to the conduct of the Show were discussed. The Wairarape and Bush Districts branch of the New Zealand Friesian Association wrote stating that special prizes of £2 10s first, £1 second and 10s third would be donated for the Friesian classes at the forthcoming Show.

A letter was received from the Cooperative Wholesale Society, Ltd., advising that a challenge cup valued at £lB had been purchased for competition at the Masterton Show. The cup, which had to be won five times, was for the most points in freezing classes for fat sheep and fat lambs. Aulsebrook and Co., Ltd., wrote stating that they would donate a 10s box of chocolates for the best lady rider at the Masterton Show. Kempthorne Prosser and Co., also advised that they would donate 10 cwt. of superphosphate as • prize for the Show. In reply to an inquiry by the executive of the Wairarapa Young Farmers’ Clubs, it was stated that arrangements had been made to hold a Romney sheep judging competition and a fleece judging competition at the Jubilee Show. Thanks were expressed to Sir William Perry for his work and interest in arranging the competitions. Four resignations were received and 12 new members were elected. The question of altering the main entrance to the Showgrounds gave rise to a general discussion. Mr. Gordon Lee said that if they reverted to the main entrance in High Street the whole of the layout of the grounds would have to be altered. The gates at the present entrance off Fleet Street were nearly tumbling down and would soon have to be renewed. Considerable congestion was caused at present by having the side-shows just inside the main entrance. He moved that the ground committee go into the question of reorganising the positions of the stands on the ground with a view to shifting the main entrance to the eld position on High Street. Mr. P. M- Compton endorsed Mr. Lee’s remarks and said that the gates on the main road would be a good adfor the Show and would traffic arrangements. While he saw no reason why the main entrance should not be altered, Mr. J. M. James said he did not think the alteration would assist the working of the Show. Mr. W. F. McLaren said he was not opposed to the ground committee considering the question but pointed out that the public would have to be educated to use the High Street entrance again.

The chairman said it was a big question and he suggested that members of the committee should visit the grounds and discuss the matter there. The motion was carried and it was dee : ded that the committee’s report be supplied to members prior to the next general meeting.
