The death occurred in Invercargill last evening at the age of 76- years of Mr. Charles Gray, whose musical activities in Invercargill cover fifty year® of unbroken service. He was active in assisting local and visiting performer® and his studio was a centre for those interested iff music. He was an authority on orchestral and choral work and was organist at St. John’s Anglican Church for many years. He was also a successful conductor.—(P.A.) The death occurred at the Greytoww Hospital yesterday morning of Mrs. Ada Speight, wife of Mr. Harry Speight, of Masterton, after a lengthy illness. The late Mrs. Speight was born in Yorkshire, England, 60 year® ago. She came to New Zealand with her husband 23 years ago, and for 12 years has been a resident of Masterton. The late Mrs. Speight was of a quiet, retiring disposition and was held in high esteem by a large circle of friends. She is survived by her husband who will have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends in his sad bereavement. A sister, Mrs. U. Ursula, Feilding, and a brother, Mr. Joseph Shepherd, Dargaville, are also left to mourn their loss. The funeral will leave Mr. G. Hyde’s Chapel, Church Street, to-morrow for the Masterto* Cemetery.

There was a representative attendance of mourners from Masterton and Eketahuna at the funeral of the late Mr. J. H. Gerrand, which took place yesterday at the Masterton Cemetery. A service at St. Matthew’s Church was conducted by the Rev. L. Ives, Eketahuna, assisted by the Vicar, the Rev. E. J. Rich. The service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. Ives, while the P.G. of the Manchester Unity of Oddfellows read the lodge burial service. The pall bearers were Messrs C. D. Shoosmith and J. Morris and four members of the* Oddfellows’ Lodge. The many beautiful floral tributes received were evidence of the esteem in which the late Mr. Gerrand was held by a wide circle of friends. Among those present were the Rev. Hindmarsh, Methodist minister at Eketahuna, arid members of the Eketahuna Methodist Church.
