MASTERTON CATTLE FAIR.

DALGETY & CO., LTD. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report on their first spring cattle fair held yesterday as follows:—Our yarding came forward fully up to advertised numbers, and attracted a large attendance of buyers from Wanganui, Palmerston, southern Hawke’s Bay, South Wairarapa, Bush, and the local district. The majority of the cattle yarded showed good breeding and were in excellent condition due to the abundance of feed during the winter. Bidding on the females, and also for the one and two-year steers was spirited, and these made goad values, well ahead of those at the opening spring sales of last year. In the 3-year steer and grown bullock section bidding was somewhat restricted, but vendors in all instances met the market. In our 3year P.A. steer section a nice pen offered on account Mr. T. Taylor made £8 15/, and a pen offered on account Mr. D. Mcßae £B/10/. A male pen on account Manawa Station made £B/16/, while Mr. J. M. Laing topped the yearling section of our sale at £6/7/. Otahume Station and Mr. W. King were next for yearling P.A. steers with a pen at £6/6/. A nice pen of P.A. yearling heifers on account the same vendors made £5/1/. cattle were slightly easier and failed to maintain values of our weekly sale of last week. ] We made practically a total clearance under the hammer as follows:— 3-year steers, a/e Manawa Station, £B/16/; 3-year P.A. do., a/c T. Taylor, £B/15/; do., a/c D. Mcßae, £B/10/. 2 year steers, a/e C. S. Taylor, £7 11/; a/c E. C. White, £7/11/; Hereford 2-year small steers, £6/13/, £7 to £7/5/. ‘

Fats: Fat Hereford cows, £7; fat P.A. cows, £7, £7/5/, £7/17/6, £8 to £8 12/; fat bullocks, £9/12/, £lO to £11; fat 18-mos. heifer, £7/2/6; fat 18-mos. steer. £7. 5-year Polled Angus bulls, lOgns. WRIGHT STEPHENSON & CO., LTD. Messrs Wright Stephenson and Co., Ltd. ,report:—We held our spring cattle fair at Masterton yesterday when we offered a yarding well up to advertised numbers to a big attendance. Buyers were present from outside districts, the West Coast being well represented. Local graziers took most of the grown cattle and prices were well up to vendors’ expectations. Outside buyers were busy on younger cattle, but prices were slightly easier than paddock quotations. Female cattle met with a very good demand and heifers and empty cows made particularly good values. Fats were easier, and competition was very limited. We offered 620 head in all and only one or two pens were passed in. Following are the realisations: —3-year P.A. and Hereford bullocks, to £9/4/; 2-year P.A. steers, £8 to £B/10/; do. (small), £7 to £7/19/; yearling P.A. steers, £5 17/ to £6/10/; do. (small), £4/10/ to £5 12/6; yearling Hereford heifers, £4 12/6 to £6; 2 year P.A. heifers, £0 to £6/9/; 3-year P.A. heifers, to £7/10/; cows, r.w. bull, £4/10/ to £6; fat cows, £7/5/ to £8; forward cows, to £6/17/6.
