MARKETING PLANS.

MR. DUNCAN REMAINING IN DOMINION. MAY VISIT BRITAIN LATER. WELLINGTON, October 5. The necessity for completing the supervision of the new Marketing Department and the negotiations in connection with zoning of the dairy industry will prevent Mr. George A. Duncan, acting Director of the Marketing Department, from accompanying the Minister of Marketing (the Hon. W. Nash) to England. The Minister stated to-day that he desired Mr. Duncan to go with him, but in view of the position in New Zealand he had reluctantly decided that it was more desirable for Mr. Duncan to remain in the Dominion to direct and supervise the inauguration of the marketing of butter and cheese under the guaranteed prices plan. “There are matters of importance and urgency at present before the Marketing Department, and more are likely to arise within the next few months and the consideration of these would to some extent be prejudiced if the director of the department and myself were both absent from the Dominion. One of the problems is the supply of butter boxes and cheese crates,” said Mr. Nash. In addition, the important work which faces the Executive Commission of Agriculture within the next few months in the rationalisation of aream cartage and the zoning of dairy factory supplies would definitely be facilitated if Mr. Duncan were able to assist the other two members of the commission. To a large extent the overseas marketing policy for this season has been settled and the selling agents have been appointed, and I feel that therefore Mr. Duncan can be more useful in New Zealand,” said Mr. Nash. “It is probable, however, that when the marketing arrangements for next season have to be reviewed in the light of the results and experience of this season’s operations and of the future policy determined by the Government after my visit to the Old Country it will then be desirable for Mr. Duncan to visit England and study in detail the work of the sales division of the Marketing Department.”—*(P.A.)
