CENTRAL SCHOOL.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. REPAIRS TO GROUND. The chairman, Mr. J. E. MeV. Calwell presided at a meeting of the committee of the Masterton Central School last night. There were also present: Messrs W. R. Nicol, F. Wesney, G. R. Beecroft, A. V. Dixon and A. Newman. The headmaster submitted a satisfactory report on the school attendance and the progress of the pupils. The average attendance for July was 87.1 and the present roll number 590. A very satisfactory report on the work of the school was submitted by the inspectors.

Various requirements for repairs and materials were dealt with. Mr. Braggins was requested to inspect the museum building and report upon its condition.

Proposals were submitted to treat the floor of the school so as to make it dust proof. These were held over, as the committee was not prepared to undertake the work at the present time. The secretary was directed to apply to have the school grounds tarred and sanded as soon as possible and it was decided that steps be taken to fill in holes in the asphalt, as this was ur gently needed. It was also agreed to have two trees in front of the school removed and to have others topped, as recommended by the inspector. This matter was left in the hands of the headmaster. The secretary was directed to write to the Automobile Association, suggesting that adequate signs be painted in Queen Street, north and south of the school, warning motorists approaching the school. Approval was expressed of the ex cellent work being carried out by the Parents’ Association for the benefit of the children, the results being considered most gratifying. Messrs Calwell, Beecroft and Braggins were appointed visiting members by rotation for the ensuing month.
