RUGBY LEAGUE.

WALK-OVER FOR ENGLAND AT WHANGAREI. WHANGAREI, August 13. Playing brilliant football, before an attendance of four thousand spectators this afternoon, the English Rugby League team beat Northland by 34 points to nil. The superiority in team work, speed, weight and individual brilliancy of the visitors overcame the defensive efforts of the local players, reinforced by three Aucklanders. The general unorthodoxy of the Englishmen, coupled with their enterprise in all circumstances and backing up at every point, made the tourists popular with the crowd. Even the full-back, Brough, scored, threading his way through three parts of the field to do so. England dominated the scrums and in the second spell Atkinson, nominally a three-quarter, left the pack to make an extra back. At half-time, England led 16/0. Northland lost many chances of scoring in the second spell. Tries were gained for England by Hudson (2), Davies, Brough, Troup, Atkinson, Jenkins and Arkwright. Five goals were kicked by Hodgson.
