BIG PROSPECTIVE INCREASE IN ACREAGE. (Received This Day, 0.6 a.m.) CANBERRA, August 12. The Commonwealth Statistician estimates that the area sown in wheat in 1936-37 will be in the vicinity of 12,400,000 acres, an increase of 600,000 acres over last year, throughout the Commonwealth. WORLD SUPPLIES. NO NEED FOR ALARM. LONDON, August 11. The Ministry of Agriculture considers that the predictions of a famine in wheat are unnecessarily alarming, and says that the world's surplus will be sufficient to meet the needs even if the worst fears are realised.
