AMBASSADOR EJECTED.

BY REBEL SYMPATHISERS IN BOMB. FARCICAL PROCEEDINGS. (Received Wednesday, 8.20 p.m.) ROME, August 11. When Senor de Cercer, successor of Senor Juste Ocerin, who resigned on July 30, was appointed Spanish Ambassador a fortnight ago, military naval attaches who .sympathised with the rebels entered his room, placed a revolver on the table, and declared that he must not present his credentials. Senor de Cercer prudently went to Paris, whereupon the Spanish Government replaced him with Senor Aguinaga, from Berne. Senor Aguinaga, after several ineffectual attempts to enter the Embassy, the Barberini Palace, broke in by a side-door to-day, accompanied by two loyal commercial attaches, Senors Saurez and Escudero, but the trio were seized, despite loud shouts for help, and confined to a room. Senor Aguinaga was informed that he would not be released until he had signed his resignation, which the rebel sympathisers hastily typed and presented at the revolver point. The police, though called, were not allowed to trespass on Spanish territory. Senor Aguinaga Signed the resignation and departed angrily for Paris, after which Senor Rafael Forns, a supporter of the rebels, displayed his own credentials as Ambassador representing the Burgos (rebel) Government, allegedly signed by Senor Aguinaga. Senor Forns then secured the resignations of the remaining loyalists on the staff, labelled his office door “Charge d’Affaires” of the Burgos Government, and declared himself ready for business.

RIGHT OF ASYLUM. GOVERNMENT CONCESSION TO ARGENTINA. (Received Wednesday, 7.35 p.m.) BUENOS AIRES, August 11. It is officially announced that the Spanish Government has recognised the right of the Argentine Ambassador, Senor Mansilla, to extend asylum to revolutionaries and remove them with him to France. (The Argentine Navy’s crack cruiser, the Veinticino de Mayo, is speeding toward Spain with orders to rescue Senor Mansilla, several Argentinians and five Spanish rebels, who are virtual prisoners in the • summer embassy at Zarauz, near San Sebastian. The Spanish authorities had previously refused to allow the five rebels to accompany Senor Mansilla when a British warship attempted to succour the ambassador.)
