CHRISTCHURCH, August 3. * The visit of the official good-wil] delegation to Samoa was a complete success, said the Hon. F. Langstone on his arrival at Lytteho.i < i the Maui Pomare to-day. The de!c ■ itiofl, which consisted of Mr. Langstone and Mr. J. O’Brien, M.P., accompanied by Mr. A. W. Mulligan ns private secretary, left Wellington on June 16 and was in the territory for four weeks. Mr. Langstone said that for the past ten years the relationship between the Samoan people ami the Administration had been anything hut satisfactory, and certainly not conducive to friendly cooperation and understanding. “I think I am safe in saving,” he said, “that as a result of onr visit the mistrust, grievances, and misunderstanding of the past have been cleared away and that Samoa to-day is united, with the people deterrtiined to work in harmony with the Administration.” “To achieve this result, it was nece»« sary to prove to the Samoan high chiefs and orators that the New Zealand Government was sincere in its desire to effect a satisfactory settlement,” said Mr. Langstone. “As a first step in that direction we obtained the approval of the Prime Minister to revoke those ordinances which were repugnant to the Mau, who represent a large majority of Samoan public opinion.”
