SHOW YEAR.
MASTERTON A. & P. SOCIETY ANNUAL REPORT. INCREASED TAKINGS & ENTKIES: RECORDED. IMPROVED FINANCIAL POSITION. The forty-ninth annual report of theMasterton A. and P. Association for the year ended June 30, 1936, states:— ‘Annual show.—This was held on February, 18 and 19, 193(1, and was a 8 “™ e8s „ in ever X wa y> tbe profit being. xlaZ 13s lid, compared with £lll 12a. 3d in 1935. Due to the splendid season, the entries were larger than in 1935, bein 8 2357 compared with 3U77. The. gate takings, plus £2OO received from the gate insurance against rain, amounted to £438 19s, compared with £347.. 8s 6d. The premium on the gate insurance was £l9 12s fid for ten points of rain between the hours of 9 aun. .and 1 p.m. The rain was verysteady, and. 18 points were registered. The rain certainly made it very uncomfortable for all concerned, and naturally affected the attendance, but it was pleasing to know that the publi* turned out in such large numbers, and the association did not suffer financially. We desire to thank the public for their continued interest; in our show. Ram Fair.—This shows a profit of £129Is 4d, compared with £B9 Ils 6d. Farm Account.— This shows a profit of £lOO 15s od, compared w-ith £93 19e, 7d! INCREASED MEMBERSHIP.
‘‘Membership.—Subscriptions collected amounted to £BOS. Us, being an increaes of £63. Ils over last year. The only losses in membership have been, twelve by death and nine from members leaving the district, and twenty have been struck off. Daring the year ninety-six new members ware elected’ the total membership being- 970, compared with 915 last year. The arreaia in members’ subscriptions amount te £l5O, compared with £l6O. Golf.— Thia game has become increasingly poynl.r the receipts from season tickets of £1 ® nd for 18 boles amounted to £lOl os, compared with £3O lOs for thefirst half of 1935, When, the sssociatioa took over the links. The Knks are onoa to all, and should show further increases, ih receipts. Weight gueseiag.—Rece.'Pt* so compared with £52 16s. We- desire to again thank the members of the Masterton Savage Club for their very fine effort under the very wet conditions existing on show day. Royal,Society .—During the year, Mr; L. J. Wild, President of the Royal Society, addressed members on the aims and objects of the Royal Society. Working Bee.— The Ground Committee spent one afternoon on the showgrounds cleaning up and sorting timber, due to the damage from the previous year. Luncheon: The tow rompared with £54 luC (Contimred on page 3.)
SUCCESSFUL BALL. 1 ‘Ball.—The second annual ball was held in July this year, and was a financial success, the figures not yet being available, but they will appear in the next annual report. Last year the ball was held in June. Mortgage.—This still stands at £3250, and a special effort is now being made to endeavour to pay this off in 1937, being the Golden Jubilee of the association. The response so far has been very pleasing, and we believe our members and friends will help us to do this, which would be a very fitting occasion. Car: The cost of this was £3O 10s, and the results are very satisfactory, as many new members, entries, and donations have been obtained. Balance sheet.— After writing off £177 10s, as depreciation, there is a surplus of £l2O 13s 7d shown, compared with a loss of £BlB 4s 9d last year, due to the storm damage. The accumulated fund now stands at £5398 9s sd, compared with £5277 15s lOd last year. YOUNG FARMERS.
“Young Farmers’ Club.—The local club make regular use of our meeting room for lectures, etc., and in June held a very successful camp for one week on the showgrounds. This camp was attended by about 120 young men from various parts of the North Island. Several visits were made to farms and other places of interest, and much valuable information was gained. Poultry pens.—Many more permanent pens ►were made during the year by the poultry committee, under the leadership of Mr. Walter Harding, and we again desire to thank them for their good work, which they hope to complete in time for the next show. Visi- 1 tors.—The Hon. Lee Martin, Messrs J. Robertson and B. Roberts, M.sP., attended the show, and were very pleased with the appointments and exhibits. Procession.—Our special thanks are due to Mr. E. M. Hodder for arranging the trades display procession to the show. We understand something more elaborate will be attempted at the Jubilee Show next year, and we desire to also thank all firms taking part, and contributing to the success of the
