DOMINION VIEWS.
INCREASE OF CO-OPERATION NEEDED. IMPERIAL SECRETARIAT SUGGESTED. MATTER FOR NEXT CONFERENCE. (Received Sunday, 11.54* p.m.) MELBOURNE, August 2. Upon his arrival from London, Mr. Menzies emphasised the need for an Imperial Secretariat in order to increase co-operation between the Dominions. He pointed out that there was no Dominion view on the larger problems. "I was frequently asked,” he said, "what the Dominion view was on a certain matter. Frankly, I had to admit I didn’t know. The Australian, Canadian, South African and New Zea land view is likely to be divergent and even Australia is difficult to ascertain. It is increasing clear that there is need for an imperial consultation before great decisions are made, not after. This matter will have to be grappled with at the next imperial conference.”
