HIGH TREASON.
POSSIBLE CHARGE AGAINST McMAHON. 1 PRECEDENTS IN VICTORIAN REIGN. EARLIER INCIDENTS REC ALLED. (Received Monday, 8.10 p.m.) LONDON, July 20. The "Daily Mail” says ibe authorities are not ignoring the possibility of a charge of high treason against McMahon Precedents examined by Sir Fdwnrd Atkinson in collaboration with Scotland Yard recalled that firearms incidents beginning in Queen Victoria’s reign led to certain acts being made high misdemeanours, including “to discharge, point in the air or present at a sovereign any gun or other arms, whether ' containing an explosive or not, to strike or throw anything at a sovereign with intent to injurs >r alarm him,” for which the punishment may be seven years and a whipping. The authorities are bearing in mind the danger of imitative incidents, though no sweeping changes are contemplated for the protection of his Majesty.
