The winter meeting of the Wellington Racing Club opened at Trentham to-day in fine but bitterly cold weather. With a fresh southerly breeze the track dried up considerably but the going was soft and slow. The attendance was very large for an off day and the betting total £34,067, was an increase of £5,096 on the corresponding day last year.
