“SICK OF BEING OUT.”

borstal escapees give THEMSELVES UP. RETURNED TO INSTITUTION. INVERCARGILL, July 7. Three inmates of the Invercargill Borstal Institution who escaped from the Borstal farm early on Friday afternoon walked into a store owned by Mr. H. Mclvor, at Makarewa this evening and gave themselves up. Later they were conveyed to the institution. At about 7 o’clock, Mr. Mclvor heard a knock on the door and on opening it saw three youths. They asked him to ring the Borstal saying they wished to give themselves up, as they were “sick of being out” in hiding. They were still wearing the clothes they escaped in. They were wet through and very tired and hungry, having lived on nothing but turnips since their escape. The yoqths appeared to have a very hazy idea of where they had been, but apparently they had remained in the bush at Flora Road, on the Invercargill side of Makarewa.—'(P.A.)
