ORDEAL AT SEA.
ADRIFT IN OPEN BOAT. SURVIVOR’S STORY. MOSCOW, July & After watching his nine companions succumb froab exposure one by one in an open boajfen the Arctic seas, Ivan Kryukov, survivor of a Soviet scientific expedition, was picked up by a Russian ship. He related how the party’s boat capsized in a storm in the Barents Sea after leaving the survey ship Toros, one being drowned. The remainder righted the boat, climbed in, and bailed her out with their bare hands. Their equipment and provisions were lost. Kryukov, who was washed overboard many times, eventually managed to lash one of his arms to the boat. The Government has given Mm a bonus and has granted a pension to the families of the victims.
