J. C. WILLIAMSON COMPANY.

“FRESH FIELDS.” Elaine Hamill, the brilliant young New Zealand actress, who will make her first appearance here at the Regent Theatre oil Thursday night next, in Ivor Novello’s greatly discussed co-medy-drama, “Fresh Fields,” is fortunate in being associated with Miss Ethel Morrison, who although also a native of this Dominion, has won many of her biggest successes in London and New York. The fact that Miss Hamill is already one'of the most accomplished actresses in Australia is due probably, to an extent, to the fact that in all the plays that she has appeared in she has performed with comedy and dramatic artists with years of experience behind them. “Fresh Fields” is the breeziest and funniest of comedies, without undue complications, and no brain-puzzling subtleties. It is a frank, joyous, sunny comedy. It is said that as Lady Mary, Miss Ethel Morrison has scored the best success of her long list of triumphs, and a newspaper critic recently stated it would be hard to find anybody who could portray the role of Lady Lilian better than Miss Elaine Hamill. She is tall-slim, clearskinned and starry-eyed, but her beauty does not obscure her great artistry. Harvey Adams is described as proved on former occasions that he is one of the finest comedy actors who has ever appeared on the Australian or New Zealand stage. The success of “Fresh Fields” is due to the fact that its characters are all portrayed by expert actors and actresses. The supporting artists include Kate Towers, Norman Shepherd, Arthur Lane, Phyllis Baker and Connie Martyn. “Fresh Fields” achieved an outstanding triumph in Wellington, where it attracted full houses during the whole of its run in that city. The box plans will be opened at Perry’s on Tuesday next at nine o’clock. A queue will be formed from 8 a.iq.
