Men’s singles; semi-finals: F. J. Perry (Great Britain) beat D. • Budge (U.S.A.), 5/7, 6/4, 6/3, 6/4; G. Von Cramm (Germany beat H. W. Austin (Great Britain), 8/6, 6/2, 2/6, 6/3.

Men’s doubles: W. Allison and S. Van Ryn (U.S.A.) beat G. von Cramm and H. Henkel (Germany), 4/6, 10/8, 6/4, 3/6, 4/5 and 0/40 (Germans retired). Quarter-final: G. P. Hughes and C. R. D. Tuckey (Great Britain) beat C. E. Malfroy and A. C. Stedman (New Zealand), 6/1, 6/1, 3/6, 6/0. Mixed Doubles; fourth round: C. E. Malfroy (New’ Zealand) and Mrs Sperling (Germany) beat J. Brugnon and Miss J. Jedrzejowsko (Poland), 6/3, 6/3. TRIBUTE TO VON CRAMM. (Received Thursday, 7.5 p.m.) LONDON, July 1. Mr. Wallis Myers, writing in the *‘ Daily Telegraph,” paying a tribute to von Cramm’s disciplined training and philosophic temperament, his unspoilt ardour resembling that of Anthony Wilding, says he participated in six weeks’ intensive match play without complaining that he was tired or blase. Within two months he played fbur Davis Cup matches won the French title and reached the Wimbledon final. Even Tilden in his palmiest day did not answer the call of the court so zealously.
