J. C. WILLIAMSON COMPANY.

"FRESH FIELDS.” Much interest is being taken in the appearance at the Regent Theatre on Thursday night next of the distinguished New Zealand actress, Miss Ethel Morrison, and the brilliant and talented young ’New Zealander, Miss Elaine Hamill, irith a specially selected J. C. Williamson company, in Ivor Novello’s comedy-drama ’’Fresh Fields.” Miss Morrison has an established reputation as a highly-gifted actress. Miss Hamill left her home town of Taihape for Australia two years ago. Her outstanding talents were quickly recognised by the directors of J. C. Williamson Ltd., and she has in a short period risen to a high place in her profession. Associated with these actresses is a brilliant company, including Harvey Adams, Kate Towers, Arthur Lane, Phyllis Baker, Norman Shepherd, Enid Collins, Connie Martyn and other well-known people. After it had enjoyed a run of over two years in London, ’’Fresh Fields” proved the most notably successful play Sydney and Melbourne had known it for years and attracted record and enthusiastic audiences in Wellington recently. Of ’’Fresh Fields”C the critic of the ’’Melbourne Age” wrote: “A rare surprise is awaiting Melbourne in ‘Fresh Fields,’ a brilliant comedy by Ivor Novello, which opened at the Comedy Theatre last night. Mr. Novello’s art is that of the manager in Pirandello’s masterpiece, ’Truth to a certain point, but no further,’ but he possesses the craftiness and finesse in dramatic construction that lifts his work above that of Lonsdale and Coward. . . . Long after the play is

over, however, it is the humour that comes back to you, and with Mrs. Pidgeon in the first act you exclaim, ’Oh, well; bang goes Buckingham Palace.’ J. C. Williamson, Ltd., are to be congratulated on their courage and good judgment in securing ’Fresh Fields,’ an exceptionally fine play.” The box plans will be opened at Perry’s on Tuesday morning next at nine o’clock. A queue' will be formed from 8 a.m.
