AMATEUR CONTESTS LAST NIGHT. Masterton beat eketahttn’a.
Keen and scientific wrestling was witnessed in the Dixon Street gymnasium last night when the Masterton Amateur Wrestling Club defeated? the Eketahuna Club in a series of matches. Masterton won four of the seven matches, while two were drawn. A good attendance of the public witnessed the bouts, which were refereed by Mr. J. Fearon. Following are the results, Masterton wrestlers mentioned first:—R. Southey 8.6 beat Fafeita 8.6, one fall to nil; G. Jackson 0.0 lost to Falkner 9.0, two falls to nil; H. Tozer 9.10 beat Pearson 10.6, by 2 falls; K. Page 9.8 drew with J. Searancke 10.0, no falls; H. Russell 10.8 beat Norris 11.0, two falls; H. Hill IJ.IO beat T. Nielsen 11.4, on points; L Sutherland JI.IB drew with J. Wilkin, no falls. At the conclusion of the matches, "Cyclone” Jack Hutchison and “Dismal Dick” Edwards, both of Masterton, appeared in an exhibition bout bf five rounds, and were warmly applauded.
