WAIRARAPA v. DANNEVIRKE LADIES. MATCHES AT LANSDOWNE YESTERDAY. Yesterday afternoon the Wairarapa ladies’ hockey A and B representative teams met teams from the Dannevirke Association, on the Lansdowne ground. Owing to the heavy rain in the morning, the ground was fairly sticky. When the teams took the field the rain had ceased and the games were played in fine weather. The A grade was drawn, 2 all after an evenly contested game, in which Dannevirke appeared to be a little unlucky. They played better class hockey than the home team. Wairarapa, however, gave a good exhibition, and with a few alterations in the team will make a strong eleven. The most outstanding players yesterday were M. Dawber and M. Rhodes in the forwards, while T. Cole was noticeable in the backs. Her partner, Miss Stalker, improved us the game progressed. The goalie also made a good showing and made some spectacular saves. The scorers for Wairarapa were: Misses Dawber and Pickering. The referees were Messrs D. Burgess (Wairarapa) and Smith i(Dannevirke). The B grade match was a walk over for Wairarapa, who ran out winners, 9/1. Wairarapa completely outclassed their opponents. By their display they would probably have given their A team a great tussle and it would not be surprising to see some of the players included in the A team. Miss E. Madsen, the inside right, gave a great exhibition, and is one of the best forwards 'in the competition. The three halves all gave good displays. The star back, however, was R. Cowan, who gave a perfect exhibition. The scorers for Wairarapa were: E. Madsen 4, N. Page 3, G. Jackson 2. Messrs Cole and Bumip were the referees. The visitors- were the guests of the Wairarapa Women’s Hockey Association at afternoon tea on the grounds, and also at the dinner at the Empire Hotel, when the usual toasts were honoured. The Dannevirke ladies returned home last night. JUNIOR REPRESENTATIVES.
The Wairarapa junior representatives played the Wa'irarape Maori representatives as a curtain-raiser to the senior games, and after a very evenly contested game the Maoris won by 4/3. The junior representatives put up a very good display despite the fact that they were meeting more experienced players. ___
