OLYMPIAD OF 1940.
VIGOROUS CAMPAIGN OPENED IN JAPAN. TOKIO, June 30. A vigorous campaign has beea launched to have the 1940 Olympic Games in Japan instead of in England. The Tokio municipality has undertaken to defray half the cost of transport of foreign teams. The year 1940 coincides with rhe 2600th anniversary of the. Japanese Empire. (It was reported on June 24 th.it the I (rd Mayor of London had sent a letter to the international Olympic committee carrying an invitation io hold the Olympic Games at London It 1940. I* the invitation was accepted the Lord Mayor would arrange to raise a guarantee fund of £lOO,OOO of which £50,000 had already been promised).
