PLAY IN ENGLAND v. INDIA CRICKET .TEST.
BATTING COLLAPSE ON BOTH SIDES. ALLEN TAKES FIVE WICKETS. (Received Sunday, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, June 27. The first Cricket test between India and England opened at the Lords. The weather was fine and the wicket drying under the influence of the sun. The attendance was 15,000. Allen won the toss and put the Indians in after an inspection of the wicket.
The Indians opened very carefully and were doing well until Allen took three quick wickets and Robins had a goodly success against Hindlekar, completely changing the aspect of the game from 66 for 0 wickets to 66 for 4 wickets. After that it was a miserable struggle for runs. The English wickets fell more rapidly than the Indians. Scores:— INDIA. (First Innings.)
