SIR MAUI POMARE.

UNVEILING OF MEMORIAL AT WAITARA.

BIG GATHERING EXPECTED.

NEW PLYMOUTH, June 18. In response to the invitation of the committee in charge of next week’s proceedings at Waitara for the unveiling of the Sir Maui Pomare Memorial and the opening of the Memorial Maori meeting house, advice has been received that the Governor-General, Viscount Galway, will be present at the ceremonies on June 27. The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, has also intimated his intention of being present and there will probably be other members of Cabinet and members of Parliament from all over the Dominion, as well as members of Maoritribes from all over the North Island and some from the South Island. Tuesday is expected to be the day on which the great bulk of the Maori visitors from other districts will arrive and they will be welcomed in traditional custom. The following days will be devoted to sports and entertainments, with tribal meetings. A hockey tournament under the jurisdiction of the East Coast Hoekey Federation will be played on the New Plymouth airport grounds and the finals on Saturday at Waitara. There will be Rugby football matches on Thursday and Saturday, that on Thursday being Taranaki v. Wanganui Maoris and the Saturday match will be East Coast v. other Maoris.—i(P.A.)i
