BOROUGH WORK.

REPORTS FOR PAST MONTH.

At last night’s meeting of the Masterton Borough Council, the Borough Engineer (Mr. C. R. Mabson) reported as follows on work carried out during the past month: — Streets.—Seventeen paths and streets were resurfaced. Renall Street path (north side) is . being reformed from Pownall Street to Railway Road. Maintenance work was. carried out in Smith Street, Oxford Street, Cambridge Tearace and Makora Road. Repairs to Hospital swing bridge are being carried out at present, the whole of the suspension having been renewed. Building permits: During the month 10 permits were issued having an estimated value of £3,910 10s the fees amounting to £l5. For the corresponding period last year, 11 permits were issued having an estimated value of £3,689. BOROUGH INSPECTOR’S REPORT The Borough Inspector (Mr. T. A. Bussell) reported.—Notifiable Infectious disease: Two cases of scarlet fever occurred during May, and one case of diphtheria to date this month. Food premises: The following licenses have been issued: 14 bakers, 9 butchers, 2 cordial manufacturers, 12 dairies, 4 fish shops, and 19 eating houses. Other licenses issued .are: 13 hairdressers, 7 drainlayers, 5 hawkers (new licenses), Plumbers, 5 tenement dwellings. Milk supply: The usual milk samples were taken for general analysis. The periodic T.B. testing of town supplying herds is proceeding. This work is being carried out free of cost on application to the Department of Agriculture. Traffic: 14 applicants for drivers licenses were examined, 3 failing to come up to the required standard. Heavy Traffic fees amounted to £2ll ijs 7a. Nine persons were prosecuted for breaches of regulations and bylaws. Three cases are pending. Dog registration: This work is nearing com536 dogs have been registered to date, fees amount to £196 17s 6d It appears likely that several prosecutions will be necessary. , G ' AS MANAGER’S REPORT.
