LATE MR. W. M. O’HARA.
BODY BEACHES AUCKLAND. BURIAL NEAR THAMES. AUCKLAND, June 8. Covered by the Union Jack, the coffin containing the body of the late W. M. O’Hara, the noted New Zealand aviator, who was killed on May 24 in an aeroplane crash at Eumungerie, New South Wales, was swung ashore from the Monowai soon after the vessel berthed to-night. Waiting on the wharf to accept the coffin were Mr. O’Hara’s brother-in-law, Mr. E. MacIntyre, of Warkworth; SquadronLeader Isitt and. Flying-Officer Kay, representing the Royal New Zealand Air Force; the president, Mr. Spencer Mason and members of the executive of the Auckland Aero Club; representatives of the Auckland Returned" Soldiers* Association and former members of the New Zealand Machine Gun Corps, with which Mr. O’Hara was associated in France. Captain Bauer, vice-consul for the Netherlands, who was a dose friend of Mr. O’Hara was also present. The coffin was taken to a mortuary van on the wharf, comrades and friends of Mr. O’Hara marching with bared heads behind a trolley which bore it. Wreaths from different organisations, including one in the shape of a miniature aeroplane from the Auckland Aero Club were placed Inside the van and the procession followed the* train to the wharf gates, where a halt was made to allow the Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis, to lay a wreath on behalf of the city. From Auckland, the coffin was conveyed by. train to Hamilton to-night. There it win be received to-morrtrw by ■members of the Waikato Returned Soldiers’ Association, who have made the funeral arrangements and some of whom will l>e pall-bearers. The funeral procession will start from Hamilton in the morning and after a service at Hikutaia, the burial will take place at Wharepoa, near Thames.—(P.A.)
