“HOP-A-LONG CASSIDY.” “Hopalong Cassidy,” the flrst Clarence E. Mulford story to be picturised by Paramount will open a season at the Cosy Theatre to-day showing at 2.15 and 8 p.m. The picture was produced by Harry Sherman, who has the distinction of -being the man who brought the Zane Grey Westerns to the screen. Sherman brings the Clarence E. Mulford, series to the screen where the author’s famous fiction character “Hopalong Cassidy” comes to life in the person of William Boyd, together with all of “Hoppy's” pals, such as Jimmy Ellison in the role of “Johnny Nelson;” Frank McGlynn, Jnr., as “Red Connors;” Charles Middleton as “Buck Peters;” Robert Warwick as “Jim Meeker;” Paula Stone as “Mary Meeker;” George Hayes as “Uncle Ben.” Read by thousands, the Mulford stories find a ready made audience who will thrill to the action, drama and romance of “Hopalong Cassidy” on the screen. Directed by Howard Bretherton, the first of the “Hopalojg” films centres about the adventurous exploits of Boyd and his two pals in rounding up a gang of cattle thieves who have been stealing and forging false brands on the cattle of the famous Bar-20 and H-2 ranches.
