UNUSUAL ATTRACTION.

AT THE MASTERTON. SHOW. From time to time many strange stories have reached the. outside world from the depth of the Amazonian forests and South American jungles, of gaily plumaged birds; rarely seen by the eyes of mankind, glittoringly brilliant reptiles, and of stunted races of people who speak no language, only a succession of grunts and’ whose sole weapons of war are ths primitive bow and arrow. But there arrived in New Zealand a few weeks ago a collection of live death-dealing reptiles which include a huge alligator. In capturing the alligator alive several natives were injured and onb lost his life before the monster was subdued, and it is only under a special permit and a heavy bond that these monsters were allowed to land in New Zealand for a limited period. They will be showing at the Masterton Show in a strong -wood’ and iron structure to ensure the safsty of patrons. Look for the big banner in the side-show section).

Ray Nicholson, aged 34, who was found badly burned on Tuesday in an out-station connected with the Waikaremoana power scheme, succumbed to his injuries at the Wairoa Hospital yesterday morning. Further particulars show that tha unfortunate young man came into contact with a 50,000volt line, and had his clothing enveloped in flames. As a result he was stripped of all clothing with the exception of his boots and socks. A fel-low-employee suffered burns in putting out the flames, the deceased being a human torch. Despite his frightful injuries and shock, Nicholson retained consciousness practically up to time of his death.—(P.A.) Black English pram for sale. Capable cook-general wanted. Baird, Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat will visit Masterton to-day and to-morrow, and may be consulted at 24 Perry Street. Esau’s, Queen Street, advertise Winter flowering sweet peas and choice selection of bulbs including many new varieties for sale. Attention is directed to an advertisement in this issue calling tenders for the painting of twenty-one railway houses at Masterton. In to-day’s issue the Railway Department advertises the issue of special excursion tickets and train arrangements in connection with the Masterton A. and P, Show and Ram Fair.
