USEFUL ORGANISATION.

OPENING OF COUNTRY WOMEN’S CLUB. ENJOYABLE GATHERING YESTERDAY. The official opening of the Country. Women’s Club, the spacious rooms of, which are situated in Chilton Buildings, at the corner of Chapel and King Streets, took place yesterday afternoon. The president of the .club, Mrs. A. C. Gawith, extended a cordial welcome to all present, making particular reference to Miss Amy Kane, president of the Pioneer Club, Wellington, who had been invited to open the club, and to Mrs. H. D. Bennett, who accompanied Miss Kane. In a short and interesting address, Miss Kane congratulated the promoters on their efforts in inaugurating the. club under such favourable conditions. The club, she said, was particularly fortunate in having such attractive accommodation on the ground floor. Miss Kane made reference to the many phases of usefulness open to the club for the general well-being of its .members and mentioned the various activities of the Pioneer Club as examples of what could be accomplished by social intercourse of such varied interests among country people. In declaring the club open. Miss Kane expressed keen appreciation of the honour accorded her in being asked to perform . the opening ceremony and wished members many years of pleasure in furthering the aims and objects of the club and hoped that it would continue to expand and prosper. At the request of those present Mrs. Bennett gave a most enjoyable address. and expressed her views as to the de-, sirability of women having social organisations, which helped them to keep in closer touch with world affairs. A much appreciated afternoon tea was provided by members and Miss Kane and Mrs Bennett were presented' with posies. Among those presentwere, visiters from other parts of the-district-who congratulated members ontheir comfortable and convenientrooms.
