FIRE AT BOURKE
HOTEL BURNT TO GROUND. DAMAGE £16,000. OCCUPANTS HAVE NARROW ESCAPE. (Received Sunday, 6.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, February 2. A fire at the Central Australian Hotel, at Bourke, yesterday, destroyed the entire premises and contents, causing £16,000 damage. A number of guests and employees had a narrow escape from being trapped. One woman was rescued from a balcony by means of a ladder, which had to be rushed from the Post Office, two hundred yards away.
