TAUERU BREAKS BANKS.

BIDEFORD SPOBTS GROUND UNDER WATER. MOTOR LORRY SUBMERGED. One of the biggest floods for years is reported in the Bideford district, where the Taueru River backed up and broke its banks. There was four feet of water over the vegetable garden at Mr. J. W. A. Falloon’s property, Rosebank, last evening, while oat crops were also under water. Yesterday afternoon the pad dock at Bideford on which the Bideford sports were held the previous day was under water to a depth in some places of up to ten feet. Only the top of the cabin of a motor lorry, left after the sports, was visible last evening. A high wind, reaching gale force at times, played havoc with trees and gardens in the Bideford district. The flood at Kopuaranga was the biggest for a long time, the flats near the store being well covered with water, which entered Mr. Jarrett’s store and residence. The Ruamahanga River overflowed at Te Ore Ore and inundated a fair area of low-lying land.
