A BELOVED MONARCH.

NEW ZEALAND PREMIER’S TRIBUTE. HEARTFELT SYMPATHY WITH QUEEN. WELLINGTON, January 21. The following statement was made by the Prime Minister i(the Hon. M. J. Savage) when he received the news of the death of his Majesty Klug George V:— “In common with all other citizens of the Dominion I am deeply moved and distressed by the death of his Majesty Bang George V. A great finan and a great leader has passed away, and this Dominion joins with the rest of the British Commonwealth of Nations in mourning the loss of its beloved monarch.

“No man in modern times has so endeared himself to so many millions of people. During the war years and the years of depression he showed the deepest sympathy with his subjects in all their sufferings apd distress. Indeed throughout his reign he shared the eares and hopes of the humblest of his people. “The jubilee celebrations last year showed how deeply he was honoured as a leader find loved and respected as a man. The reason was not hard to find. He had revealed himself through numerous crises and through a long and illustrious reign as a man of great wisdom and character and always as a simple, direct, and lovable personality. “The deepest and most heartfelt sympathy of the people of this Dominion goes out to her Majesty the Queen and other members of the Royal Family in their hour of qorrow.”—(P.A.)
