BUSINESS AT QUARTERLY
MEETING.
ADDITIONAL STREET ALARMS.
The quarterly meeting of the Masterton Fire Board was held last night, Mr. W. Kemp presiding in the absence of the chairman* Mr. Trevor Beetham. The Superintendent was authorised to procure two switch board clocks at a cost of £lO and ten alarm boxes to provide additional street alarms. Appreciation was expressed of the action of the Borough Council in enforcing hosing restrictions in view of the poor pressure of water for fire fighting. It was stated that the council intended to prosecute offenders. The danger of long grass in the borough was also stressed and it was agreed that the attention of the public should be drawn to the matter. The Superintendent, it was stated, was at present making a tour of the borough in connection with this matter. Accounts totalling £477 were passed. The quarterly report of the Superintendent, Mr. T. B. Clark, showed that the brigade received two calls in that period, the total firfe loss being £1404 10s. The' fire alarm system was working satisfactorily. Ten drills were held.
