WEATHER REPORTS.
Masterton: Miss R. Robinson reported as follows for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday:—Barograph, 30; shade temperature, maximum, 87; minimum, 47.3; terrestrial, 38; sunshine, 10 hours.
The Government Meteorologist (Dr. E. Kidson) reported “at 4 p.m. yesterday as follows:—A depression extends from the Tasman Sea across New Zealand, but its influence is being modified somewhat by an intense tropical cyclone which has been located north of New Caledonia. Forecast: Winds, moderate to strong northerly, backing temporarily to southerly to-morrow in places, especially up as far as the Cook Strait area. Weather: Mainly cloudy to overcast, with showers or misty rain in places, but more especially in western districts and the high country. Temperatures warm, but becoming cooler to-morrow in the South Island.
